Citicape House

Citicape House is currently at planning stage; once complete, the 11-storey building will contain a five-star hotel, a mix of offices, co-working and event spaces, a sky-bar, spa and ground-level restaurant. Set in a traffic-heavy area in the City of London, this redevelopment will also incorporate the largest living wall in Europe, which is expected to absorb 8 tonnes of pollution annually. The green wall will wrap the entirety of the façade from level 1 to roof.

QCIC were appointed by Dominus Group to initially provide guidance during the planning stage on the best approaches to incorporate requirements recommended by the city’s Architectural Liaison officer.

We proposed a Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) strategy that follows the concept of the QCIC initiative “Life without Barriers”. This concept seeks to incorporate threat-relative measures into the architecture and landscaping of the development with a focus on removing the daunting nature of traditional hostile vehicle mitigation measures.

The scheme proposed integrates the HVM into the façade using minimal landscaping to deliver a continuous line of protection to the building.

In order to inform the HVM design in the next stage, we carried out a vehicle dynamic assessment to determine the highest impact speeds that a threat vehicle would be able to reach.

We look forward to using this study to inform HVM design further in the next stage of works and collaborating with the professional team in the full technical and physical designs during the next design phase.
