The Gasholders project at King’s Cross, London, is a unique luxury residential building, comprising three cylindrical apartment buildings within restored heritage gasholder frames.
Constructed in 1867, the holders provided storage for the gas needed by the city and heavy industry – the telescopic guide frames would have risen up or down depending on the pressure of the gas within.
We were excited to support our client and Wilkinson Eyre by providing the security design for luxury apartments built within this unique and challenging structure.
King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership appointed QCIC to work with the architect to ensure the design and operation of the building would suit the circular layout and successfully provide the highest level of residential security.
Having liaised with the local Designing out Crime Officer, we designed the electronic security systems and advised on the layout and operation of communal areas in relation to security. In addition to coordinating with the M&E designers on the project, we also collaborated closely with other specialists to support the client’s aspiration for a unified intercom, home automation and concierge offering.
Our involvement in the project continued to completion, ensuring that the building achieved the security requirements of the developer, planners and residents, as well as meeting the standards for a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM sustainability rating and the Code for Sustainable Homes.
